About Mountainside Outfitters

Mountainside Outfitters is the newest chapter in the Metzger family’s 20 plus years in the outdoor sports business.  It all began in New York State in 1996, when Elizabeth first opened an archery and outdoor sports shop.  Her four children all grew up helping in the family business.  Her son Charlie and daughter Melissa have remained involved in the day to day operations since they were young. Her son Dave moved to WV years ago, but always returned to NY to lend a hand when needed. Her daughter Erin joined the Air Force after graduation, and then the Marine Corps. She still returns to help when she is able. Come take a journey with us through our history below.

Timeline

1996

Our doors opened for business under the name of Dave’s Archery and Sports Center. We specialized in equipment for both sport and hunting, as well as operating a full service archery pro shop.

1998

We opened a deer processing and smoking plant. Though we specialize in deer, over the years we have done all sorts of wild game; from turkeys and Canadian geese to caribou and bear, and everything in between.

2002

We expanded our maple farm,  Sugar Ridge Farms,  from 1,000 maple trees to 5,500 taps, making us one of the largest producers of pure maple syrup in the area.  At that time we also began carrying sugaring equipment in our retail store for customers interested in making their own  syrup.  We enjoy helping folks get started in this fun and interesting hobby.

2012

After adding a full service gunsmithing workshop and  greatly expanding our selection of firearms, we had became so much more than an archery shop and knew it was time to rebrand.  We decided that Mountainside Outdoor Supply Center was a name that better reflected what we had to offer.

2017

With a growing desire to have the whole family together in the same area again, and to fulfill our vision of a bigger and better outdoor store,  the search began to find a suitable property in WV, and we quickly found the perfect location in Sistersville. We bought the old Backyard Auto Body property and started the job of renovating the building for the new business.

2018

It took just barely over a year to fully renovate the old auto body shop but we did it and as of August 25th, we are now open for business! Stop in regularly as our inventory is continually changing.

2019

It took all of us working for 5 months straight to finish our brand new, built from scratch, state of the art processing plant. But we got it done in time and opened for business on opening day of bow season (Sept. 28th). We will stay open throughout all the local deer seasons.
